Trying to better understand ecology in the Silicon Valley, I took a walk around Bellarmine's campus. I never realized how much plants an animals go through and are on Bellarmine's campus every day. Bellarmine's surrounding does not necessarily have a distinct ecology because it has a city surrounding. But the campus itself is alike a prairie. There are rolling hills and scattered trees. Meanwhile, Bellarmine's environmental science is different. Bellarmine's ecology is present because of man made environmental science such as sprinklers and fertilizer. As for a Bellarmine food chain, the students and faculty would be on top, then followed by cats, then dogs, then chickens, then lizards. On campus, there is not any specific endangered species, but chickens on campus are kept alive by man power, so without man power the chickens would be dead. Meanwhile, Bellarmine's campus produces a lot of pollution. Mainly in the parking lot. Even walking into the parking lot, you can smell gasoline and smog. Primary Consumer
DNA to mRNA Code^ Being 100% honest, I did not expect this project to be as fun and beneficial as it turned out to be. Doing this truly helped me practice DNA coding, which I feel more confident now at doing then I did before this project. Who knew DNA coding could be fun? Understanding DNA coding is vital as it helps us understand how the human race processes energy and genetic information. Truly understanding this helps research for diseases and genetic mutations. The more we code, the more we discover. My mother is also a fan of this project as she enjoys the necklace!
I am happy to have decided to take Biology Honors. My grade may not be the best, and I may struggle with some of the concepts, but I feel as if I am learning more than I would in a regular Biology class. Mr. Wong goes into detail when explaiing something specific. It is also really easy to go and get help outside of class. I may be repeating myself here from a previosu blog, but in this class we do not always do rubric Biology. We take some days to do labs or discuss important biological events or problems in world today. Discussing biology problems around the world really helps my understanding of how important the subject we are learning is. For example, I learned this week why our bodies need to produce insulin. Lack of insulin leads to diabetes. That is just one example of many of new discoveries I have made in this class.
